New Program: Responding-Not REACTING to Conflict

The Dayton Mediation Center in partnership with the Police Department is launching an innovative program designed to build relationships between officers and community members.

The workshop “Responding, Not Reacting to Conflict” will include a small group of citizens and officers who will spend two sessions getting to know each other while learning about conflict resolution. The workshops will take place on two Saturdays, February 11 and February 25, 2017. After the workshop, the citizens will host officers for a visit to their neighborhood. Then the whole group will meet again to report on their experiences, to plan for future connections and to decide how to share their experience with the larger community.

“Our hope is the relationships formed by these police officers and neighbors as part of this project will help strengthen the Dayton community,” Janet Mueller, Dayton Mediation Center.

This project is funded in part from a grant from the JAMS Foundation and The National Association for Community Mediation. The sessions will not be open to the media, however, someone will be available for discussion after the events.
