The adult victim-offender program provides mediation services to citizens through the municipal court prosecutor’s office. Some cases, particularly where the disputants have an ongoing relationship or connections, are better served by having a conversation rather than taking it through the court process. Mediation services are also offered to people whose cases are not ideal for the Court process to address.
Victims of minor offenses need a mechanism to be heard even when the cases they bring to the court do not meet the requirements for prosecution. The prosecutor traditionally offers complainants an opportunity to mediate these cases at the City of Dayton Mediation Center. This program has provided a way for victims of minor crimes to actively engage in conversation with the offender in the presence of a qualified mediator.
