A new program by the Dayton Mediation Center and the City of Dayton Police Department was recently featured on Fox 45. The Citizen Police Conversation program offers citizens an opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with police when a complaint involving rudeness or discourtesy has been filed. Janet Mueller, a mediation specialist at the Dayton Mediation Center explains the value of the program in this way: “[The] citizen can see the officer as the human being he or she is and same with the officer to the citizen and I think it’s really valuable in changing the dynamic of the relationship.” The program began this past spring with the East Patrol Operations Division and will be implemented throughout the entire department by the fall.
